Morufat Balogun (B.TECH LAUTECH., M.Sc., PhD Ibadan, FITR) is a Professor of Genetics at the University of Ibadan.

She had worked at the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training Moor Plantation, Ibadan for 10 years up to Senior Research Fellow cadre, and then the University of Ibadan. She ascended the ladder at UI and was promoted to full Professor, effective October 2018.

She collaborates with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), National Agricultural Seed Council (NASC) on the development of formal seed systems especially vegetatively propagated crops, using Tissue Culture techniques. 

A special focus of her research is on development and scaling of technologies for high ratio propagation of high quality early generation seed yam.

She is the Initiator and Principal Investigator of the Youth4Climate Initiative, Department of Crop Protection and Environmental Biology, University of Ibadan.

She was Fellow, United Nations University/Institute for Natural Resources in Africa (2000); IITA, Ibadan, Nigeria (2000-2005); Norman E. Borlaug International Science and Technology Fellowship for Women in Science, United States Department of Agriculture (2005). 

 Fellow, International Institute for Training, Research and Economic. Development.

She has more than 60 intellectuals in a robust network of collaborators, mentors, supervisees and mentees including  PhD, MSc, and BSc students.

She is:

• Mentor under the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development Programme. 

• Member of the Genetics Society of Nigeria 

• Member,  Society for In vitro Biology (United States) and also 

• She has won grants from the State department, USAID, USDA, and the MacArthur Foundation.
